My Story
Hello! I’m a freelance editor specializing in content based on family studies research. I’m the fifth child in a family of eight children. My big family stood out like a sore thumb in my hometown of Euclid, Ohio, a suburb of Cleveland. Growing up in such a diverse area, I met families of all kinds—and I was always grateful for my loving family and our healthy relationships and traditions. I believe that strong families are foundational for healthy communities, so I’m passionate about family studies research.
In December 2023, I’ll graduate from Brigham Young University with a degree in family studies and a minor in editing. Through my courses in editing, I’ve learned and applied copy and substantive editing skills. I’ve become familiar with both Chicago and APA styles, broadened my communication skills, and refined my attention to detail. Through my courses in family studies, I’ve developed a grasp of research principles and an extensive knowledge of family life issues.
I currently work as the publishing coordinator for the Integrative Writing Program in the School of Family Life at Brigham Young University. Through this program, students write public scholarship articles surrounding important issues related to family life including topics like relationships, human sexuality, parenting, child and adolescent development, aging, therapeutic interventions, and more. I work with those students to prepare their articles for publication, including by providing copy edits. Then, I help those students find publishing outlets that are a good fit for their writing and work with the students to help them through the submission process.
For as long as I can remember, I’ve had a love of reading and a knack for spotting writing errors—from pulling all-nighters because I couldn’t put a book down to correcting teachers when they wrote something wrong on the chalkboard to getting in trouble for reading under my desk during math class. Now, as an editor for family life research, I get to do what I love in a field that I’m passionate about!
